Zoom down: Thousands left unable to make video calls after huge outage

If you try and fail to make a Zoom call today, you’re not alone. The chat app is currently down and not working with thousands of reports pouring in from across the UK. Things seem to have disconnected around 3:15pm BST with the gremlins still going. This massive outage could not have come at a worse time for British workers, many of whom are staying at home today due to the nationwide railway strike. This may have put additional strain on Zoom‘s video network, although there’s no official word on what caused the issues.

Independent outage monitor Down Detector, which tracks issues across the web, is currently showing a huge spike in zoom-down reports with the vast majority of issues related to online connectivity issues. As of this writing, more than 1,000 reports per minute are pouring in.

Along with Down Detector issuing an alert, Zoom users also flocked to social media platforms to express their frustration.

Speaking on Twitter, a user by the name of Christina said, “It’s going to be a fun day of hybrid work with Zoom down!”

Another, named Thomas, asked, “Hi, I can’t join Zoom right now. Is the Zoom server down now?”

Some Zoom customers have also posted screenshots online that appear to show the app constantly showing a spinning wheel but never connecting.

Zoom has yet to make an announcement about the outage, but Express.co.uk will update this story when we know more.
