WhatsApp for iOS is working on another long-requested feature by users, the ability to hide their online and recent activity status from everyone. This feature is already in development and will come in future app update.
According to WABetaInfo, the messaging app will soon allow users to hide their online status from everyone. Until now, users had the option to display their last seen information to selected people, their contacts, everyone or no one at all. For the future version of the application, WhatsApp will allow users to follow a similar approach to this part of the platform.
The post said the feature will be available directly in the last seen settings on their apps through two new options: Same as last seen and Everybody.
According to the screenshot it will be possible to configure who can see when the user is online in the last seen settings with the options Everybody and Same as last seen. For example, if you choose My contacts for the last time and Same as last seen for online, that means non-contacts won’t be able to see when you’re online.
Last year, WhatsApp started hiding last seen from contacts that users have never chatted with, to prevent third-party apps from monitoring our last seen and online status. However, people that users have previously chatted with can still see when they are online, but with this new privacy setting, Who can see when I’m onlinethey can no longer do so.
The developer team is also working on a feature that allows users to edit a message they’ve already sent. Also, the Edit and Delete Messages feature is coming to iMessage from iOS 16. Despite the controversy, the feature could prove quite useful.
