Hacked version of WhatsApp

Cyber security experts recently warned of a questionable version of WhatsApp that exposes its users to hackers.

The WhatsApp “mod” – an unofficial version of the chat app that provides users with additional functionality – invites dangerous malware into your phone.

Researchers from Russian security firm Kaspersky Labs say the malware can run ads and purchase subscriptions to intercept your texts.

FMWhatsapp is the popular WhatsApp messaging modification that has been exposed by the team.

WhatsApp mods are features that add new functionality to the standard messaging app. These include privacy, security, and personalization.

They are created by technical assistants not associated with Facebook. WhatsApp warns users against downloading them.

Kaspersky suggested that users only download official apps to avoid falling for similar scams.

It is important to carefully consider the permissions required by the applications.

WhatsApp Money Theft Scam

Earlier this month, WhatsApp users were warned of a scam that could rob them of thousands of criminals.

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) has warned people about fraud involving a scammer pretending to be someone you know.

The CTSI provided an example of this scam in a statement posted on its website.

He revealed: “A member of the public named Alison received a message on the popular messaging platform WhatsApp:” Hi mum, I dropped my phone in the toilet (sad emoji), this is my new number . “

Alison responded to the message by asking if it was Will, her son.

The next day Alison’s ‘son’ texted her asking for £ 2,600 and explained that he had meddled with loan sharks and had to pay. Alison didn’t doubt a single moment of the message.

Alison realized this was a scam and stopped waiting for it to get too serious.

If you receive a suspicious message asking for money, it’s a good idea to call a friend or family member.

WhatsApp fake delivery scam

The team at antivirus vendor Kaspersky Lab has urged people to be on guard when opening texts claiming to be for deliveries.

Attackers pose as online delivery companies and ask their victims to click on a link to direct them to a questionable website.

The visitor is then invited to enter their credit card details and banking information.

Kaspersky explained the deluge of WhatsApp scams in a report.

“Unexpected packages requiring payment from the recipient remained one of the most common tricks during the last quarter,” Kaspersky wrote.

Kaspersky wrote: “The reason the invoice was sent by the ‘courier company’ could be customs duties, shipping charges, or a combination of the two.

“In trying to pay for the service, as in the case of compensation fraud, victims were directed to a bogus website, where they not only risked losing the amount itself (which could be much higher to the one specified in the email), but also to reverse their bank card. details.”

Researchers suspect this was due to the increase in home deliveries since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Users should always check links in WhatsApp messages before interacting with others, according to the company.

To protect against new threats, the company recommended that users install a comprehensive security system.
