How to see people’s status without letting them know you have

WhatsApp has undergone a major transformation since ownership passed from its founders to Facebook (now called Meta). Although WhatsApp is still an instant messaging app, it has made chatting more interesting and intuitive with stickers, GIFs, file sharing and the latest, Payments, WhatsApp has improved over time.

One of the most used features besides texting is the status which is similar to Instagram Stories. Status allows users to share images, texts and videos with contacts for 24 hours and is a very popular feature on WhatsApp. Additionally, as a spectator, you can see the status of other people, which will add your name to the spectator list as soon as you tap the highlighted circle.

However, sometimes seeing someone’s status without letting them know you’ve seen them is the need of the hour. For such times, we offer you a very easy way to keep your viewing activity completely anonymous and camouflaged.

One of the easiest ways is to use the feature called “Read Receipts”. This feature allows you to turn off the blue check mark on messages read in the inbox. view the activity of your contacts. However, if this option is disabled, you will also not be able to see who is reading your messages and viewing your status.

Now that you know what the ‘reading receipts’ option is capable of, here are the steps to modify your application accordingly:

  • Launch the application
  • Tap the three dots in the upper right corner.
  • Now select “Settings” from the visible options.
  • Go to “Account”, then press “Privacy”.
  • Once the privacy window opens on your screen, scroll down a bit to reveal the “Read Receipts” option. Uncheck the option to activate anonymity.
